World trip › Russia & the Trans-Siberian

Russia, Moscow

· 2 min read · 7 comments

Having arrived in Moscow on the morning of September 20, 2010, I muddled my way through the metro system (being able to read Cyrillic really pays off here!) and at my destination I got a warm welcome from Anna, the sister of my couchsurfing host (www.couchsurfing.org). After a long-awaited shower and a quick snack, I set off to roam Moscow on my own. In the early evening I met up with my couchsurfing host Olga, who gave me a perfect tour of Moscow’s sights. After a Russian dinner in a typical local restaurant, the third sister, Tania, joined us and we explored Moscow by night. Russian hospitality and warmth – I can vouch for both, absolutely! In the picture, from left to right: Tania, me and Olga in front of Moscow’s largest church.

It’s now 3:30 a.m. (Moscow time) and I’m going to get a few hours of sleep before exploring more of Moscow tomorrow. Then, around 9 p.m., I’ll board the Trans-Siberian Railway to Irkutsk (Siberia, Lake Baikal). The trip will take five days. I probably won’t have internet there, or later in Mongolia, so I may not be able to get in touch again until I’m in Beijing. See you soon!
