China, Beijing 8 (Peking duck)
October 22, 2010: Thrilled with my bargain at the Silk Market, I wanted to treat myself this evening to my second Beijing Peking duck at the best Peking duck restaurant in Beijing, which specializes exclusively in Peking duck. Even my first Peking duck experience a few days earlier had been an absolute delight. The specialist Peking duck restaurant (yep, I’m really fond of the name „Peking duck“) is fully booked every night, with waits of several hours. Luckily we got a table on the third floor pretty quickly. I was really hungry, so I ordered a whole Peking duck, even though there were only two of us. After about 45 minutes a chef arrived with our scrumptious duck and carved it right in front of us.
Dinner was served, and now it was time to dig in for all we were worth!
It was so incredibly tasty! Even though I’d been full for ages, I just couldn’t stop. Only when the last piece of duck had been devoured, the last drop of soup spooned up and the last bit of vegetable eaten did I slump back, exhausted, and start digesting… Since I simply couldn’t move during the primary digestion phase, and given the amount of food that took quite a while, I soon had the whole restaurant to myself… In the picture you can see me on the left, in the middle, in the act of digesting, while the waitresses on the far right are waiting for their last customer… A truly delicious meal!
