- Quick Update: GPS Receiver, a Really Handy Helper -

September 7, 2011

Once again my trip has reached an intensity I never imagined. I’m happy if I get more than five hours of sleep – I catch up on the rest on buses and trains. So right now it’s impossible for me to turn my diary notes into travel reports – no chance whatsoever. But so you still know I’m doing fine, here’s hot-off-the-press GPS data of my current route. :) Thanks to some research by my dear brother, I bought a decent GPS receiver in Hong Kong, and it has been with me every day since Macau. I’ll sync the GPS data via the internet once a week, so you’ll know what my route looks like at the moment. :)

And here’s the first part: “From Macau to Siem Reap”
http://www.my-travel-log.com/facebookApp/shareData/2011September/FB6vYjNS.htm

You can see my route in Halon Bay, on the Saigon River or in ancient temples in Cambodia – depending on how far you zoom in and out. You can also replay individual sections with “Play” and see the boat, train, bus or walking speed, etc. ;)
Take the times with a grain of salt, since everything is shown in “German time” (the time zones still need adjusting…).

Of course, the first 11 months of the trip will follow at some point too – but I’ll have to draw those into the world map by hand… If only I’d used a GPS earlier (!) – but oh well, better late than never.

With that in mind, all the best,

Yours, Mathias
